Vidova Gora – Island of Brač
Vidova Gora is one of the most famous viewpoints in Croatia – the top is called Vidilica.
Brač is the highest island in Croatia. And of course, houses the highest peak of any Croatian island – Vidova Gora. This mountain is one of the places on the Adriatic that regularly has snowfall in the winter.
This is perfect if you’d like to combine some time on an island, swimming and hiking. It’s a 780 meters high trek, so be well prepared, especially if you’re coming in the summer months. During first part of the hike, follow the Vidova Gora signs. The road is a rocky trail leading up the mountain, covered with stones.
At the top of Vidova Gora are several communications towers, a small café and a picnic table. There are several memorial plaques, a large cross made of Brac stone and the foundations of an old church of Sv. Vida.
When the weather is clear, you can catch a glimpse of many other islands and Mt. Biokovo as well, such as Pelješac, Korčula and Vis. Sometimes if you’re lucky you can see the peaks of the Apennine Mountains.
